Amir Khan Vs. M.A. Barrera

Khan to face ring legend Barrera

Warren said Khan was "champing at the bit" for the fight
Amir Khan will meet seven-time world champion Marco Antonio Barrera on 14 March at a unspecified British venue.

The 34-year-old Mexican is a former champion at three weights and has won 64 of his 71 fights.

"It's a big fight for Amir who's been champing at the bit. It's the right fight at this stage of his career," said promoter Frank Warren.

"It'll bring out the best in him. This puts him well and truly on the world stage," he added.

Last time out in December, Khan beat Irishman Oisin Fagan in his first bout since suffering the first loss of his career - a first-round knockout at the hands of Breidis Prescott last September.

The Olympic lightweight silver medallist split from trainer Jorge Rubio after that defeat and is now guided by Freddie Roach.

Barrera, who inflicted Prince Naseem Hamed's first career defeat in 2001, won his first world title in 1995, and over the years he has faced the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez and Erik Morales.

From bbc.co.uk/sport

Who do ya think will win? I think Khan, not cuz I'm British, but because Barrera isn't what he once was and Khans speed and boxing abilty should be able to do the job

Re:Amir Khan Vs. M.A. Barrera

Is this all officially signed up? If so...WOW!!! I didn't expect him to fight someone as good as Barrera...I know he is old but he can still put up a decent fight!!!

I think Khan would win...because Barrera has been in sooo many wars and has taken so much punishment...it has caught up to him!

What a match-up though... I think Khan will stop Barrera but Khan will get hit a few times and get hurt...but he will get some top quality rounds for experience!

Actually I take part of that back... I said Khan would stop Barrera... I just checked on boxrec.com and looked at Barrera's past fights...not even the Pacman could stop him...and that was only in 2007...most of his losses come via 12 round UD...so Khan could be in for a longggg night!!!

I still see Khan winning this!

Amir Khan Vs. M.A. Barrera

He's only 34 though, I think Khan's gonna struggle but he'll win it through work rate after 12 rounds. I doubt it'll be a stoppage or knockout for Khan though, possibly for Barrera if Khan loses his bearings due to pressure and the sheer skill of Barrera. It'll be a class fight though, gonna try and get tickets.

I'm gonna say Khan by stoppage in the 8th.

I know Barrera can take as much punishment as she dishes out, but Khan is naturally much much bigger than MAB. Khan will hit harder than Pacman and he has youth and speed on his side.

Aren't I biased lol

Tough to call, I don't trust Amir's chin(he was knocked down many times then knocked out quickly), and MAB's chin is legendary so even if the power and speed edge go to Amir, the chins could make the difference if this becomes a war. I don't see Khan knocking out Barrera...but I could see a referee stopping the fight due to MASSIVE beating with lots of punches and hand speed. If the referee is more laid back I think it will go to a decision.

MY PREDICTION:

Amir Khan wins via Unanimous Decision

PS - It's my girlfriends birthday this saturday and we are going to a club that is just 5 mins walk from the MEN Arena where the fight is taking place...so maybe I will see Amir if he comes to party haha

Every single British boxer you comment on you're negative about, do you actually follow Boxing as a sport or nations? Barrera was looking for a big punch throughout but couldn't get it, Khan's defence was impressive considering that it's always been his weakness. Barrera got one big shot in round 4 or 5 and couldn't make anything of it, Khan took it and continued to dazzle Barrera with his work rate and speed. Barrera never had a chance, he's past it. In his prime, most likely, but he didn't look like he had anything on Khan bar experience, Khan had all the physical advantages and used them to batter him.

It was a cheap fight against a man who was years out of his prime. Calzaghe couldn't even finish him pathetically enough. And winning a bullshit split decision isn't battering anyone. If Hopkins fought like he did against Pavlik (going for the ko, taking chances) he'd beat Calzaghe hands down as old as he is.

Unless boxers are American he won't give credit, you know that so no point in arguing with him.
It's easy to blame it on that..I've seen many fighters go on with a deep cut and winning the fight anyway. If you really are the best fighter you might lose the fight because of this, but being completely shut out you shouldnt.
Anyway I dont see the problem here. MAB is far from the MAB that killed Nazeems career. So he loses, big deal ?

At this point Khans gonna lose if he meats someone like JMM.
He is speedy, but not overly so, and it's easy to be speedy if you don't commit your punches. There's not much power behind them.
Whats speed good for is theres no power behind ?
He still fights like an amateur..I didnt see him slip a punch even once, he don't know how to move his head.
He just looks very green, and would be destroyed by someone like Pac or JMM.
Roach is going to have to work wonders with him. He just looks so amateurish.

His punches might not have as much power behind them as other fighters...but they have a lot of "snap" behind them...stinging shots...they will accumulate and add up...Khan is a class act with bags of ability...he needs to fight top opposition from now onwards though...

If I were his promoter and manager...I think he is not ready for JMM yet... I would make him fight JMM in about 7 more fights from now...I would like to see him fight these guys in this order:

1. Jon Thaxton (prove himself as Britains best lightweight)

2. Mezaache (for European title...prove himself the best LW in Europe)

3.
